Block Signal

Model railroad BlockBlock System

Marx Automatic Block Signals
Instructions, tips and tricks
Some of Marx's earlier signals got the process in reverse. The #404 and #1402 were like that. Instead of isolating the common rail (center), this one isolated the outside rails.

Block signal
A signal at the entrance to a block (See Block) indicating whether the block is occupied by a train.

Block signal. A fixed signal at the entrance to a block, to govern trains and engines entering and using the block.
Block station. A place at which block signals are located and from where they may be operated.

Block Signals
A signal or series of signals, usually automatic, which control a block.
Board ...

"A block signal system whose indications supercede the superiority of trains in both following and opposing movements on the main track." ...

Fixed block signal
Most blocks are 'fixed' blocks, i.e. they delineate a section of track between two defined points. On timetable, train order, and token-based systems, blocks usually start and end at selected stations.
.....

Automatic block signals are block signals which are joined by electrical circuits to provide a signal indication.

Automatic block signal
A signal controlling the entrance to an automatic block.
Automatic Train Control (ATC) ...

Automatic Block Signal System (ABS)
A series of consecutive blocks whose use is governed either by train actuated block signals or by certain conditions affecting the use of a block.

OVERLAP"Where two block signals control the same stretch of track OWL-Streetcar or train that runs late at night; almost anything having to do with night
PADDLE"Semaphore signal ...

ABS : See Automatic Block Signal
Abutment : A foundation designed to hold back the pressure of solid ground, such as an end pier of a bridge.
AC : See Alternating current ...

Automatic Block Signal (ABS) A train control subsystem based on a series of consecutive blocks governed by block signals which are controlled by the movement of trains and certain other conditions (e.g., detection of level crossing closure) rather ...

Absolute Permissive Block (APB) A designated section of track or tracks within which the movement of trains will be governed by block signals, whose indications supersede the superiority of trains.

This method will obviously not be able to trigger the green and red lights of a block signal properly, but it will work on gatemen, crossing gate, semaphores and other on/off signals.

A length of track between consecutive block signals or from a block signal to the end of block system limits, governed by block signals, cab signals or both.
Block Occupancy Indicator ...

Cab Signal A signal located in engineer's compartment or cab, indicating a condition affecting the movement of a train or engine and used in conjunction with interlocking signals and in conjunction with or in lieu of block signals.

A length of track of defined limits, the use of which is governed by block signals or by some other type of signaling.
Block signal. A fixed signal at the entrance to a block, to govern trains and engines entering and using the block.
Block station.

Signal aspect: The information conveyed to a railroad vehicle operator by a block signal. Signals may use colored lights, position-significant lights or mechanical semaphores to generate various aspects.

Automatic block
A block section in which operation of the signals is fully controlled by track circuits.
Automatic block signal
A signal controlling the entrance to an automatic block.

The circuit requires no adjustment and indicates the direction the train is traveling and can provide a steady state output for controlling block signals and interlocks.
General Purpose Block Occupancy Detector ...

Block Signal - Indicates whether block is occupied or not.
Board - A fixed signal or marker.
Bobber - A short four-wheeled caboose.
