Bolster Holes
Fill the hole in the bolster where the old truck snapped in. There are several ways to do this. I have used pieces of sprue left over from a model that happens to fit.

 


Bolster Wagon
A flat open wagon having horizontal bolsters (relatively narrow boards projecting above the surface of the wagon and running across the width of the vehicle).

The car body rests on a set of fthe rubber air cushions or bags, two being arranged on each bogie bolster. Compressed air is fed into the bags under the control of a levelling valve to ensure the correct pressure is maintained.

Next, let's move on to the underframe bolsters. This is where I reduce wobble. Remember those horn-hook couplers you threw away?

The bolster to frame contact is another possible problem. Connections at both ends of the drawbar are also places for OHM BUGS to lurk. The tender almost always has less weight on the wheels to mash dirt on the rails.

Kingpin - A plastic pin or screw that attaches the truck of a model railroad car to the bolster on that car. A steel pin that conects the wheel set or bogie to the bolster at the pivot point on a real or prototype railroad car.

A large bolt which passes through the center plates on the body bolster and truck bolster. The truck turns about the bolt, but the stress is taken by the center plates. It is, therefore, a mere pin and not a bolt in the usual sense.

It is characterized by sets of coil springs between the bolster and the truck frame. The standard Type A switcher truck is a stiff, hard-riding truck; the four-wheel Flexicoil truck lets switchers ride better at road speeds.
