If you've used foam as a base for your layout, it will be easy to cut a small ditch along the side of the road, paint it with earth color, add ground foam, weeds, rocks, culverts, etc. to add realism.

Despite being rostered by the railroad as a pile driver, it was essentially a bridge derrick with detachable pile driver leads. This one is blocking highway traffic while driving a piling to stabilize the ground around a small culvert.

Culverts and other passages for water must be kept clear lest water is impounded by the trackbed, causing landslips.

The second type is used in the culvert loader and unloader and in the aquarium car and animated gondola. It uses a coil near a flexible steel strip. Similarly it pulls and pushes the strip 60 times a second.
