Derating or De-Rating
Any of several changes made to a diesel engine to improve fuel efficiency or lower maintenance costs, including removal of a turbocharger and adjustment of fuel settings.
Derating
Any of several changes made to a diesel engine to improve fuel efficiency or lower maintenance costs, including removal of a turbocharger and adjustment of fuel settings. The usual result is a nominal horsepower rating for the engine.
Derating - Modifications made to a locomotive which allows only a portion of the avalible horsepower to be used. This usually will result in cost savings in fuel and maintenance.
The usually moderating influence of the ocean from the east, powered by the Gulf Stream, is interspersed with brief moments of danger due to the potential for hurricanes near the mouth of Chesapeake Bay.
