The simple layouts depicted here are for the popular two-rail G track, also known as #1 Gauge. In the first pair, we have given two lists: one for LGB brand, one for Aristocraft.

G scale: (1:22.5) commonly used for garden layouts. Also called LGB scale. If you like working outdoors, doing real landscaping and gardening, this is the most likely model train scale you'll want to use.

Today, G scale continues to increase in popularity and sophistication. Many like its size, which is "big enough to get one's hands on" while still being able to turn in a 4 foot diameter.

Model railroading in a scale of 1:22.5; often erroneously applied to other scales in large scale model railroading such as 1:20.3, 1:24, 1:29, and 1:32--all of which also operate on #1 gauge (45mm track). See also "Large Scale."

RPM is a loose-knit group who concentrate on building scale replicas of 1:1 railroads and rolling stock. All scales are welcome. The only requirement is that the model should be based on an actual prototype (not freelanced).

A HO Scale track will not work for a G Scale Model Train because they are different sizes.

The more recently developed alloys used in high-quality G scale track are much less corrosion-prone. Brass is sometimes favored over nickel-silver for outdoor use, because it expands and contracts somewhat less with changes in temperature.

He has both HO and G scale trains, and his favorite railroad is the old Southern Railway. Jackie Gronwald, 20, hails from Dover, Delaware. She currently does not model any scale, but her favorite railroad is Conrail.

One mistakes that a lot of people make, is choosing the wrong scale at the outset. Discuss scales with other people in the hobby - we all have our own preferences on scales.

Consider it a handy abbreviation that describes not only the modeling scale but also the track gauge used for a particular model pike. The "n" signals that it is narrow gauge -- in this case, 3 feet. (Standard gauge track has rails 4'8-1/2" apart.
