Model railroad Grab IronGrade Crossing

Grade Crossing Bell Ringer (LM555)
This is an updated version an LM555 timer based - Grade Crossing Bell Ringer - circuit that was built for the London Model Railroad Group. The circuit drives a warning bell that is shown on the page.

Heading down grade to the far side of the garden.
Pass in review! Past the station and windmill.
Another look at the station.

Grade: refers to the level of the ground or the ground surface upon which track is laid.

Grades:
How fast can you climb to get over a track? I mentioned grades a short time ago. I really like a maximum of 2%, 2" climb in 100" of track (this can be rounded off to 96", or eight feet).

Grades (slopes)
If you're interested in sending your trains up and down hills, remember not to set the slope too steep. A useful guideline for HO scale is 4% MAXIMUM. This means that to rise up 4 inches vertically, you need 100 inches of linear run.

Grade
The vertical rise or fall of a track per 100 units of distance, expressed as a percentage. A 2" rise in 100" is a 2 percent grade.
Grade crossing ...

Grade
The inclination or slope of track. It is usually measured as a percent. For example, a rise of 2 feet in 100 feet of track is 2 percent. Occasionally it is expressed as "1 in n", where n is the number of feet in which the track rises 1 foot.

Grade Resistance
Resistance that results from the energy put into a train to lift it vertically, as up a steep grade. The energy is returned without loss when the train comes back down again.
Grainer ...

Grade crossing
Crossing of highways, railroad tracks, or pedestrian walks or combinations of these on the same level
Grade Separation ...

Grade line (grade). 1. The line of a profile representing top-of-rail elevations of track. 2 A series of staked elevations transferring this line to the ground or roadbed.

Grade
The degree of inclined elevation of the track's surface over a given distance, usually expressed as a percentage.
Green Eye ...

A grade (or gradient) is the pitch of a slope, and is often expressed as a percent tangent, or "rise over run". It is used to express the steepness of slope on a hill, stream, roof, railroad, or road, where zero indicates level
.....

The grade crossing at West One Hundred and Fifty-Eighth Street has been eliminated by carrying the street overhead; the tracks have been elevated in the vicinity of Inwood Park, crossing overhead at Dyckman Street.

- Use a high-grade 1x2 inch strip of wood for the front of the box. Make 2 triangle-shaped pieces of the same wood to make up the sides assuming you want an angled control panel; otherwise, use rectangular 1x2 inch boards for the sides and the back.

Maintenance, upgrade and repairs is demonstrated, as discussed in the March 2001 NMRA Bulletin. How to reduce current draw on Athearn locos, how to repair the engine if a problem exists. Techniques apply to other brands as well.

Down grade - American term for a down-hill grade.
DPDT - Double pole, Double Throw. This is a special switch which is used on model railroads to allow you to change the polarity of the current for reverse loops, or complex block control.

At Grade Crossing
RAILWAYS. The term used in the USA for a railway line crossing a road at the same height without a bridge, or for two railway lines crossing at the same height without a bridge. The latter is also called a diamond, I think.

Exclusive Right of Way The placement of LRT tracks with a grade separation from normal street traffic. LRVs are able to operate at significantly higher speeds in areas of AN exclusive right of way.

Broad gauge (Ireland): 1600 mm 5'3" Broad gauge (Finland): 1524 mm 5' exactly Broad gauge (former USSR): 1520 mm 5' Standard gauge: 1435 mm 4'8 1/2" Narrow gauge (Cape gauge): 1067 mm 3'6" Narrow gauge (meter gauge): 1000 mm 3'3 37/100" Grade ...

When traction tire equipped locos slip on grades, run your finger across the rubber tire. If this soils your finger the tire should be replaced. Grime sticks to the tires and reduces traction. Replace, don't clean them.

Subgrade. Gravel, crushed rock or the like, usually inferior to the ballast used in the track, spread on the surface of the cut or fill prior to distributing ties and ballast.

This locomotive was designed for logging and other operations where heavy grades and sharp curves existed and prevented the use of side rod type locomotives.

In the US known as a grade. Banking Locomotive A UK term meaning a locomotive used to assist trains over an uphill section of line incorporating a long or steep 'bank'.

Level crossing The term level crossing (also called a railroad crossing, railway crossing, train crossing or grade crossing) is a crossing on one level ("at-grade intersection") - without recourse to a bridge or tunnel - generally of a railway ...

You may find a few different grades of dry ice available. In particular 'food grade' dry ice is made from the same kind of CO2 found in carbonation machines and is safe for human consumption.

Many loaders are built on a grade so gravity can do a lot of work for them. Invariably, empty hoppers are placed upgrade of the loading point.

If Colorado says mountain railroading to you then look at pictures of trains on the Moffet Road before 1928 when the tunnel bypassed the 4% grade over Rollins Pass.

The practice of easing grades when building curved track, so that the friction plus grade equals the intended maximum grade effect.
Compensating Bars
Splice bars for joining different sized rail, say 65# to 80#.

A railroad crossing at grade. It is protected by signals which are actuated automatically by the approach of a train.
Automatic Signal
A signal controlled automatically.

WALK UP AGAINST THE GUN"Ascend a steep grade with the injector on

WALL STREET NOTCH"Forward corner of reverse lever quadrant in engine cab (more commonly called company notch).

A structure used where one track crosses another at grade, and consisting of four connected frogs.
Crossover
Two turnouts with track between, connecting two nearby and usually parallel tracks.

05 amps (10 bulbs = 0.5 amp)
8. For each smoke unit - add 0.1 amp
9. For each sound system - add 0.1 to 0.2 amp (some draw as much as 1.2 amps!!!)
10. For railways with grades, add 20% to each motor for each 1% of grade ...

Elevation - On a drawing or set of plans, a single side view of a structure, or the vertical rise above a given level or grade.

Royal Station to Cincinnati's Union Terminal. This fast schedule with an average speed of 36.6 mph permitted only five cars since the schedule didn't provide the necessary time to use a helper on the grades in West Virginia.

In the old days, level crossings were usually protected by wooden crossing gates that were manually swung out across the road. Now usually protected by electrically operated crossing barriers that swing upwards out of the way. Called a grade ...

My module has a double mainline so it should reflect good drainage as would the prototype. The final result should look as if the scenery was there first, the bull dozers came through and graded the right of way, ...

Available in many colours and grades from various manufacturers.
Scenic break : A way of dividing up a model railway to make it look as if two or more sections are further apart than is the fact..
