This is an updated version an LM555 timer based - Grade Crossing Bell Ringer - circuit that was built for the London Model Railroad Group. The circuit drives a warning bell that is shown on the page.

Grade line (grade). 1. The line of a profile representing top-of-rail elevations of track. 2 A series of staked elevations transferring this line to the ground or roadbed.

The grade crossing at West One Hundred and Fifty-Eighth Street has been eliminated by carrying the street overhead; the tracks have been elevated in the vicinity of Inwood Park, crossing overhead at Dyckman Street.

Make grade crossings look real. Use black painted balsa wood, plastic strips (or even popsicle sticks) as inserts to cover the railroad ties at road crossings - giving the crossing a more authentic look.

Do this when you are coming to a "grade crossing". A grade crossing is where a road crosses the railroad tracks.

When operating in railroad yards or city (urban) settings, locomotives must make noise as they approach auto or pedestrians grade crossings and stations. For slow-speed operations, a bell is mounted on the locomotive.

There are only 3 buttons on the control unit, but using the buttons in various combinations create a great variety of sound effects including grade crossings, crew sounds and multiple train sounds. There is only one speaker.
