hog law - nickname for federal regulation limiting operation crews to a maximum of 16 consecutive hours of work. This law was done to prevent crew members from working so many hours that their fatigue contributed to accidents and injuries.

Refers to ICC service regulation which limits continuous duty to 12 hours. A crew "goes dead" after 12 hours and must be relieved by a "dog catcher" crew.
