Kitbashing: A model railroad term referring to the use of one or more prefabricated kits to build a new unique model. Often used for constructing buildings that are unavailable commercially. Or just another fun way of being creative.

Kitbashing is a practice in which a new scale model is created by combining elements from existing, commercially-available model kits; these elements may be added to an existing base, or to each other.

Most structures on the layout are kitbashed or scratchbuilt. Carefully built models of common bridges and crossings seem to be present everywhere.

That's all there is to it. Now comes the challenge of finding, kitbashing or scratchbuilding all those models! Enjoy! ...

For real accuracy, you will also have to do a bit of research to verify that the car style, paint job, and dimensions are a reasonable representation of the era, locale, and road you are modeling. Or you might do a bit of kitbashing, detailing, ...

The counterweight for the gate becomes the head of the rocking arm. The pivot for the gate can be used as the foundation for the counterweights and power supply. You'll have to scratch or kitbash the derrick (easy).
