Loop

Model railroad LocomotiveLoose

Loop layouts have been around since the first wind-up train set. Favored by toy train operators since the earliest times, they still find favor with many model railroaders. These plans offer a nice blend of action and continuous running.

Up to 4 loop controllers could be made with the two PCB's or the other sections of the boards could be used independently.
Combined PCB Circuit.

Loop
A line parallel to a running line, which by virtue of crossovers between the two lines, enables one train to pass or overtake another.
Loop Line ...

Reverse Loop - A track configuration that curves around, turns back and reconnects to itself for the purpose of turning a train around and returning to the same track from which it came.

Loop
Continuous circular connection between up and down lines at terminal station or yard enabling trains to reverse direction without releasing locomotive.

loop (rail) (UK), siding (US): used on single-track railway lines, a loop is a second parallel set of tracks (running for a short distance), allowing two trains to pass by one another.

A loop will let you run your trains, and a loop within a loop can let you run two trains if you have the power packs for them.

A loop-type device used to pass orders up to a moving train.
Horsepower
The measuring unit of power; technically, the power necessary to continuously raise 550 pounds one foot in one second.

Return loop
A section of track that reverses the direction of a train running through it; on the prototype more often called a "balloon track".

A return loop is another good place to use a Turnip. My TURNIP is at the entrance to a hidden loop of HOn2 1/2 track. The approach is via a curve so both natural forces are working for me.

Reversing loop wiring
Reversing Loops
Track sections that double back on itself (trains reverse direction while running) are called reversing loops and require special wiring.

Passing Loop
RAILWAYS. A length of double track where trains can pass each other, on a railway line which is mainly single track. Alternatively, a length of additional track alongside the main line, allowing faster trains to pass slower trains.

Relay An electrically operated switch Reverse loop A line which curves around and is attached back to itself to allow trains to be turned. Not often found on the prototype. Requires special wiring on two rail model systems.

The earliest systems used variations on the simple loop and hook system. The problem was that the cars had to be lifted off the track to be coupled. Following this most companies turned to complex and sometimes unreliable latch coupler.

the term is also used to cover the British term: loop. Also, a passing track in the U.S.
Signal: A device that indicates to the driver of a train information about the line ahead.

Balloon Track or Balloon - Technical term for a reverse loop.
Balsa - A Lightweight wood sometimes used in model railroading, however better suited for model airplanes because of its light weight.

Detection is usually by a track circuit or equivalent electrical loop. Also used to verify that a point or signal has operated correctly as part of the interlocking.

In my days at Metra, I used to periodically work the South Chicago Loop. This was the job that looped back and forth all evening on the South Chicago District.

Swipe the train sensor in one loop with a 17010 switching magnet. Place one lead of the test light on the outside rail of the loop track. Place the other lead on the inside rail of the mainline. If the bulb lights up, the polarity is correct.

How do you wire a reverse loop? The common method is to insulate the reverse loop at both ends, run separate feeder wires from the power pack to the loop, and install a double-pole, ...

The drum or loop configuration trims the sail by winding the sheet or a loop about a drum mounted on the shaft of a gear motor. The swing-arm configuration attaches the sheets from the sails are attached to a arm mounted on the shaft of a gear motor.

As you follow the train around the loop in these four photos, you'll see how the structures and trackwork arrangement help create and reinforce a number of small scenes.

Grab the balloon just above the loop and make a twist just above where your hand is gripping the balloon. This will form the sword's handle.

A train pulls completely through one leg of wye, the switch is thrown and reverses the direction, allowing the movement across the semi-loop track of the wye, and the train is then headed in the opposite direction.
