Mixed trains with passenger and freight cars ion the same train ran, and still run even today, in many parts of the world. The Nevada County Narrow Gauge ran scheduled mixed trains for most of its life. S.P., U.P. and A.T.& S.F.

Mixed Train - A train pulling both passengers and freight cars.
Module - A section of a layout that is built following a standard pattern or dimensions.

Trains can also be mixed, hauling both passengers and freight, see e.g. Transportation in Mauritania. Such mixed trains became rare in many countries, but were commonplace on the first 19th century railroads.

Sometimes these are mixed trains and the transportation might be in a coach or a combine tacked on the end of a local, or even a caboose. These add interesting operations problems when trying to run a railroad.
