Promotion of the hobby: We have a booth at most area train shows to promote the hobby and the NMRA, and to answer modeler's questions.

Motion
A general term for driving and valve gear on steam locomotives.
Motion Plate ...

Stop motion (or frame-by-frame) animation is a general term for an animation technique which makes a physically manipulated object appear to move.

MONKEY MOTION"Walschaert or Baker valve gear on locomotive. Monkey house is caboose. Monkey suit is passenger trainman's uniform or any other smart-looking uniform. Monkey tail is back-up hose
MOONLIGHT MECHANIC"Night roundhouse foreman ...

The motion, forward or back, that one or more cars, locomotives, or parts of a train has without moving other coupled cars, locomotives, or parts of the train. Loose slack is the free movement or lost motion between parts of a train.

The motion, crosswise of the track, of all car parts except the wheels and axles. This lateral motion, or end play, results from the flexibility which must be provided in truck structure in order to permit easy and safe negotiation of track curves ...

Life has a motion. Our scene is static. Aside from an occasional animated piece or blinking light, everything on our display is motionless. It does not move.

Loco-Commotion
RAILWAY SIMULATORS. This program is not a railway simulation, although it has excellent graphics which nicely depict the movements of trains through a southern German or Alpine style of landscape.

Doing this 60 times a second causes a (nearly) smooth motion. For the fingers to grip these motors they should never be lubricated. The second type is used in the culvert loader and unloader and in the aquarium car and animated gondola.

Skipper The conductor Slack The motion, forward or back, that one or more cars, locomotives, or parts of a train has without moving other coupled cars, locomotives, or parts of the train.

Adhesion Coefficient (m) The ratio of the tangential and normal forces that exist between the wheel and the rail at standstill and during motion. The adhesion coefficient for rolling motion is usually referred to as m R. Generally taken as 0.3 to 0.

Bobber refers to the bouncing motion of such a caboose in motion.
Bo-Bo (Europe): A locomotive with a 4 wheel per truck configuration, each individually powered, as opposed to a 6-wheel "Co-Co" configuration.

If you decide to use slow motion switch machines one of the simplest power supplies to use are the type that is used as a battery charger for many cordless tools. They look like a cube and plug directly into a 120VAC outlet.

In this model the rotary motion of the crank drives the slider, but it is also possible for the slider to drive the crank. For this to be effective, the crank should have a bit angular momentum to keep it spinning at the ends of travel of the slider.

Stephenson Valve Gear (link motion) - A valve gear in which the steam lead is greatest at mid-gear and greatest at full forward. Walschaert Valve Gear - A valve gear in which the lead is constant at any position of the reversing gear.

With various brush sizes, apply in a downward motion from the top of the car, your thinned polly scale paint, and work it into the grooves and such. It's best to have a few shades of grime thinned to give you a better look.

These rods convert the linear motion of the piston to the circular motion of the driving wheels.

End to end A layout upon which a train set in motion from any one position will eventually have to stop and reverse direction in order to be able to return to its starting point.

Allan straight-link motion
A valve gear combining the features of Stephenson and Gooch valve gear, but where the expansion link and radius link move up or down together in opposite directions to obtain reverse.

These circuits might be of use if slow motion type switch motors were to be installed on a layout that already had push buttons mounted on the control panels.

Drop the staff through the slot and into the cup, then adjust the stand on the long ties to get the motion you want as the turnout is thrown. Use your NMRA gauge to be certain that the target will not be whacked by a passing train.

The NMRA, or National Model Railroad Association, is an organization devoted to the development, promotion, and enjoyment of the hobby.

The large steel arm that transmits motion from the piston to the driving wheels of a steam locomotive.
Consignee
One who receives a freight shipment.

Now you're ready to apply it to the model using a vertical downward motion so that it gives a streaked appearance. This can be very subtle if you make sure not to use too much paint on the brush.

There is no intended promotion of any one manufacturer, nor is this necessarily the "best" way to go about building your own caboose.
