High nose units like those on Norfolk Southern predecessors Southern Railway and Norfolk & Western had plenty of headroom in theirs toilets. That high nose paid off in this situation.

Needle nose pliers are used to hold the wire while it was wrapped around the lead. Any excess wire can be trimmed away after soldering and the end tucked into the phototransistors lead. A small heat sink could also be used during soldering.

The standard EMD nose/cab configuration used before most railroads began adoption of the wide-nose safety-cab style in the 1990's.

Use dull wire cutters or needle nose piers to squeeze the track around the pin at the base of the railhead. Many track pins also have a rut in either end so that the railhead sides can be pressed in and prevent slippage.

For collecting trains, no tools are really needed, although a few screwdrivers and needle nose pliers are useful for securing parts.

- You can slowly bend a strand 90 degrees, if you're careful, with needle nose pliers, although you will lose a little of the light intensity by bending it. This can take some practice.

Deltic
An early type of large diesel-electric engine, one of a few varieties with a bulbous nose on either end. They seem popular for some reason, and the name crops up often.

Others lack working couplers on the nose of their engines that have cylinders out where you can see them. The TURNTABLE serves the dual function of pointing your engine in the opposite direction and making a connection to the other track.
