Expressed in "pounds per yard". Rail currently rolled in the USA ranges from 112# to 145#. Lighter rail (12#, 20#, etc.) is still rolled in other countries.

Rail Weight The number of pounds per yard that rail weighs. Currently rail is being rolled at 112 to 145 pounds per yard.
The front end tractor sets rail in place. A problem at Pine Creek is matching differeing rail weights and profiles. Most rail is donated.
