Running board: Walkway along roof or along sides of tank cars.
Scale: The size of things on a model railroad relative to things on a real railroad. For example, in the most popular scale, HO, models are 1/87th full size.

Lift the black running board treads off the sill. Pop the metal tabs off the back of the coupler housing, slide the black coupler pin out and remove the Rapido couplers. Remove all clear plastic lights and windows. Disassembly is now complete.

The two diagonal running boards were also drilled with clearance holes, letting us fasten them together with one of the wing-nuts and bolts removed from one of the legs.

A rectangular duct leading from the central equipment blower, just below the central air intake, straight down to the running board on the left side of the unit (short hood considered front).

First off is the running board and ladders. They no longer exist. The side windows, and one end window have been plated over, Athearn got this semi-correct. On the model the windows are visible on the sides, the prototype they are not.

As the starter button was just a few feet over the starter, only experienced mechanics were able to fire them without jumping down the running board! ...
