Telegraph operator.

A flat spot on the circular tyre of a wheel, usually caused by the wheel skidding along the rail when braking heavily. Causes a characteristic knocking noise and vibration in the vehicle.
Flitch Plates
The outer metal plates of a sandwich frame.

You can spot the Regulars by the color of their uniforms. There are four kinds which you are likely to encounter:
Grays: these are the rank and file troops, the Enemy equivalent of our men. They wear the same style of uniforms and helmets.

Judging from the trail behind them, this place is frequented often.

Another spot of note along the way is the former location of the Wyman-Gordon Company. I recall riding past this plant on the road along side of it many times as a kid. Forgings for various applications, including the space program were produced here.

Hot Spot Loaded double-stack or container train. House Track A track entering, or along side a freight house. Cars are spotted here for loading or unloading. Hump A rail yard with a hill.

Furthermore if your track is in less than ideal condition, a curve on a grade will be the prime spot for a derailment on your layout, due to the unusual stresses placed on the track joining pins by car wheels.

Usually, used to spot surface a track when the roadbed is frozen and the ties cannot be surfaced tamped; or for temporary use to bring the tops of adjoining rails of different height to a desired plane or elevation.
Shoulder, ballast.

Flat: A wheel defect where the tread of a wheel has a flat spot and is no longer round; flats can be heard as regular clicking noises when the wheel passes by.

Flat (2) A spot on a wheel, caused by skidding or wheel slide, which causes a tapping sound as the wheel rotates and which can usually only be removed by expensive reprofiling of the wheel on a lathe or wheel turning machine.

The motive power situation has been a bright spot though. The variety of "new" units is exciting with some recent new acquisitions. First came SD45T-2's rebuilt by Morrision Knudson to "-3" standards.

Junction The spot at which a branch diverges from the main line. It may consist of a single turnout for single track or may consist of several turnouts and diamond crossings for double (or multiple) tracks.

Woodland Scenics calls this the "leopard spot" method, because that best describes what you are doing - painting a spot here and a spot there.

A railway stop is a spot along a railway line, where passengers can board and exit the train; US usage is flag stop.

Derail. A track safety device to guide rolling stock off the rails at a selected spot as a means of protection against collisions or other accidents.
Derailment. Anytime the wheels of a car or engine are off the head of the rail.

Helper Additional locomotive used to help a train get over a difficult or steep spot.
Hostler Person that moves locomotives around.
Homasote Paperboard often used for roadbed.

Admire your finished fairy house and place it in the garden or the house. Keep it in a quiet, secluded spot away from pets and toddlers.

When the best spot is chosen, drill some holes to let the sound from the speaker get out. More holes equals better sound. Mount the speaker with double sided foam tape or self tapping sheet metal screws - drill pilot holes first. ...

The head end would get to Moss and pull the Raw Coal onto the Main Line or Runaround and then use the other track to runaround it and spot up or wait for the Pusher to come and shove the raw coal in.

Spot -To marshall or shunt. To move a car to the desired location.
Spur - A divergent track having only one entry; a branch line over which irregular service is offered.
Stabling - Accommodation for a short period of time.
