The first three railways all had different gauges: the Dublin and Kingstown Railway, 4 ft 8 in (1435 mm); the Ulster Railway, ; and the Dublin and Drogheda Railway, .

Does it have two or three rails?
If it has three, it is either O, O27 or Standard Gauge. Measure the distance between the outer rails. If it's 2 1/8", it's Standard Gauge/ If 1 1/4", it's O or O27.

Three Rail - Current is fed from a center or side conductor rail, return is through the insulated wheels and track.
Three-Way - Point or switch making connections to three alternative tracks.
Throat - Entrance tracks to a terminal or yard.

Today’s episode involves three railroads and a single official. I guess you only need one railroad manager to create the CRI epidemic. At the time of this occurrence I was working a train on railroad A.

No matter what system you have, you still will connect 2 wires to the tracks (even on three rail Lionel- the engine picks up power from a roller on the middle track).

Tin plate is not very common any more. Early O27 (aka Three rail) and similar items are tin plate models.
These are not know for their historical, or prototypical accuracy, however, they do have a large following.

Standing Cut
A term for making a cut of cars by walking to the cut to be made rather than pulling the cut to you.

Wye (US), triangle (UK): Three railroad tracks in a triangular form with switches at all three corners. With sufficient lengths of track leading away in all three directions, a wye can turn a train of any length.
