Throttle Power Supply
The first schematic is of the Direct Current power supply for the throttles. Shown is the primary and secondary circuits and the components needed to power the throttles.

Throttle Modulation
This is a method of using the throttle, terrain, grades and curvature for optimum fuel conservation.

Throttle Notches.
Determines whether a loco is controlled with 14, 27, 28 or 128 speed step mode.
Transponder ...

Throttle
The speed control of the locomotive; in the model world, a potentiometer or other speed controller.

Throttle
The speed control on a locomotive. In model railroading, a rheostat generally functions as the throttle by controlling the voltage which reaches the track.

- Throttle controls, usually incorporated into the transformer, but not always, for controlling train speed.

Open the throttle, increase speed.
Wigwag
A grade crossing signal, which utilizes a swinging target with a central red light to attract a driver's attention.

Grapevine throttle
In a steam locomotive (such as UP 844), a throttle whose handle extends downward from the linkage overhead (vs. horizontally).
Gross ton-mile ...

A simplified throttle provided to move the B unit of a diesel locomotive not equipped with a regular engineer's control.

"feel" of the throttle as it assumes its new duty. Also, you can not move an engine on a table that is rotating or rotate the table under a moving engine. I find this idiot proofing very comforting. Aligning the rails requires a steady and ...

Railyard Raid - remember doing this as a kid?

It contains a large red throttle knob, a numeric keypad, and buttons for direction, bell, whistle/horn, boost (accelerates while the button is pressed, then resumes previous speed), brake (overrides the available momentum setting), front coupler, ...

Hostler A person who operates engines in engine house territory and works under the direction of the engine house foreman Hostler's Controls A simple throttle to allow independent movement of locomotives not equipped with engineers controls.

Hostler's Controls A simple throttle to allow independent movement of locomotives not equipped with engineers controls. Hospital Train A train consisting of damaged or wrecked rail cars being transported to a repair point on their wheels.

Combined Power Handle: A handle or lever which controls both the throttle and the dynamic braking on the locomotive: forward (away from operator) past center is throttle up, backward (toward operator), past center, operates the dynamic brake.

throttle — an electrical device used to control the speed of a train. Most often this is a rheostat which wastes electric current by turning it into heat in order to vary the voltage applied to the track.

Layshaft A hand operated throttle connected to the governer on a diesel locomotive. LCL Less Than Carload Lots. Brakemen on local freight runs used to have to unload LCL merchandise at stations on their territories.

Which DCC system you purchase will depend on what you like in throttles, and perhaps which DCC system your operators have purchased for their home layouts.

One or multiple throttles are also attached to the DCC system. The booster supplies your track with constant voltage and amperage, and the DCC system encodes signals (usually via high frequency AC) and sends them along the rails as well.

Regulator
The device that controls the speed of an engine. See also controller, which is the term used for models. These are throttles in North America, I think. Analogous in function though not design to the accelerator of a car.

Flywheels - When incorporated in model train locomotives, these circular metal weights improve low speed operation, while allowing a train to coast, rather than abruptly slow down, or stop, when the throttle speed is reduced, or switched off.

route and within their working limits, I just left the second crew on the pusher units, dropped off "Norton Hill" into Appalachia and out onto the former Southern at Big Stone Gap at which point the engineer on the rear units opened the throttle ...
