TOFC or trailer on a flat car. Originally used when truck trailers were loaded onto flat cars for shipment by rail.

Ton-mile
The movement of one ton of freight a distance of one mile, a standard transportation industry measure.

TOFC

One ton of freight transported one mile.

TOFC
Ton-Mile
1. A unit used in comparing freight earnings or expenses. The amount earned from, or the cost of, hauling a ton of freight one mile.
2. The movement of a ton of freight one mile.

TOFC Trailer on a flat car. Refers to intermodal shipments. Tons per Operative Brake Gross trailing tonnage of the train divided by the total number of cars having operative brakes.

Joint Facilities Any facilities owned by two or more railroads.

TOFC: An abbreviation for "Trailer-On-Flat-Car" (Intermodal freight transport).
Token: A physical object given to a locomotive driver to authorize him to use a particular stretch of single track.

TOFC - A trailer on a flatcar system of intermodal transport on which truck trailers are carried.
Token - Authority for train to enter single line section. Of different forms including wooden staff, electric staff, tablet, key token.

Colour Position Light (CPL)
RAILWAYS. A type of signal. I think this term might possibly refer to the circular signals used on the Northeast Corridor (NEC) route in the USA.

Platform
A loading dock for freight or passengers. A high platform is even with the car floor, while a low platform may be at any height below floor level.

For instance, modern railroads try to run TOFC or container traffic in the early evening from the shipper and have it at the receiver by the next morning.
