Cushion Underframe
A term commonly used to designate the framework of a railway car which is designed to prevent the shocks and impact stresses from damaging the car structure or its lading.

Cars whose underframes are equipped with hydraulic devices that absorb forces in order to cushion the load from damage.

Now put the underframe on the floor over top of the weight. Next fasten the trucks on with the 2 shinny machine screws that were in the envelope. Remember to put the trucks on upside down too. The angled sides of the truck frame are up.

Benchwork is the underframe of a layout; it is the structure which supports your subroadbed (which, in turn, supports your trackwork). There are several types of benchwork to consider.

Bolster The transverse member of a bogie frame or vehicle underframe through which the bogie pivot passes or is connected. Thus a bolster can be a body bolster or a bogie bolster. Boss The centre part of a wheel through which the axle passes.

Carefully check the underframe, the back side of sideframes, any place you can see a parting line. This is extremely important along the sides of the coupler boxes! Be careful not to remove the ears that the coupler covers clip over.

Bogie : Movable wheel unit on rolling stock connected to the underframe by means of a pivot. Enables far greater weight to be carried on even short wheel based rolling stock.
