Unit Rules
Rangers and other frontiersmen armed with rifles may operate in small groups, but regular soldiers armed with muskets must fight in units. You must have at least one officer for every fifteen regular soldiers.

Road Unit - A diesel locomotive built specifically for mainline service. the wheels and axles are of a more heavy duty design, and the gearing of the traction motors are more appropriate to the higher speeds.

Unit Train
A consist of freight cars, usually dedicated to a single commodity and/or origin and destination, which customarily is not broken-up except for special maintenance work on a component. (For passenger trains, see "Train Set.")

Unit trains are examples of captive equipment, which travel between two locations in dedicated service.

The smoke unit and all the fake fire lights for the structure should be controlled with one switch. This will prevent you from forgetting to turn off the smoke unit.

Each detector unit uses approximately 30 milliamps of current if the EAST, WEST and the time delay LED's are all used.

A Unit
RAILWAYS. A locomotive with a cab, which can optionally be used with a cabless booster locomotive called a B unit. A common example is the F7A which can optionally be operated with an F7B.

RAILWAYS. A type of steam locomotive.

We also have the E unit, similar in appearance to the F unit, except it has A1A trucks. They also have 2 diesel engines in them, to give them more HP.

ECU (Electronic Control Unit) The computer that controls all electronic functions and operations of the train. Each car in a consist has it's own ECU, which communicates with the other ECUs in the consist.

Normal track current is AC which causes the solenoid to reverse directions of "pull" 60 times a second causing the unit to buzz slightly in neutral (see MOTOR DESIGN for further discussion).

In Europe only used for Multiple Unit trains and specialised types of rolling stock. The proposed UIC autocoupler was shelved in the 1970s due to cost but Germany and France are currently carrying out trials of a traction only autocoupler.

The air hose marked ACT or BR CYL enables the lead unit to control the trailing units brakes Branch A portion of a division designated by a timetable. Rules and instructions pertaining to subdivisions apply on branches.

Capacitor Discharge Unit (CDU) : An electrical devise for solenoid point motors. Giving a very short but intense burst of power to the motor when switched.

On another occasiont when I had been at Norton about 3 weeks, Westmoreland Coal Company at Appalachia loaded a 100 car unit train destined for the Walnut Cove Steam Plant (S. Boston, VA).

CDU Capacitor discharge unit. Used to store power so that several point motors may be fired simultaneously. Chairs The base into which bullhead rail is laid in order to attach it to the sleepers.

In this country, usually expressed as a percentage of rise — that is a rise of 1" in every 100" (or any other unit) is equal to a 1% grade; 2 in 100 = 2%, and so forth.

Movement: The bases of a unit must start and end each move in contact with each other. All units may move OR fire every turn. If bases are in contact with enemy bases after movement, they must fight.

The unit has a 3/8" square output shaft with lots of torque when four to twelve volts is supplied. The ammeter indicated less than 1/4 ampere of current as I tried to keep that square shaft from turning. I had no excuse.

Diesel multiple unit. Diesel-powered passenger vehicles that replaced steam engines on non-express (suburban, rural, commuter) railway lines.

First, read the installation instructions for the sound unit, and identify the components. Then remove the coal or wood load from the tender, or remove the body from the loco, or remove the roof from the boxcar.

Reinsert the clear plastic windows and lights in the cab, then apply the unit numbers in the cab marker lights. Then take the shell assembly and gently slide it back onto the frame and handrails. Now you are ready to slide the cab back onto the shell.

Remove the switch inside of the compartment if one exists by disconnecting the wire and pulling the unit out of the train. If there is no switch installed, ignore this step.
