Huge in size, classic in style and high minimum values. Every collector would like to own a US twenty dollar gold piece. The series abounds with rare dates and mints.

Like the new $20 gold piece of 1907, the 1907 Indian Head eagle coin was struck in ultra-high relief. In fact, to achieve this effect, each coin had to actually be struck multiple times.

Gaudens $20 Gold Piece is, without a doubt, the most beautiful of any U.S. coin ever produced. The design is classic. In 1986, the U.S. Mint once again honored the artistic genius of St. Gaudens by resurrecting the obverse design on the U.S.

Double Eagle - Official terminology of the $20 Gold piece. It is exactly two eagles, which is twice the denomination of the eagle or $10 gold piece. The eagle and the dollar were the basis of the U.S. currency system up until the early 1970s.

The reported mintage figure for the 1927-D $20 gold piece was about 180,000 pieces - fairly high. Yet it ranks as one of the all-time rarities in the series because most of the 1927-Ds were destroyed before they were released into circulation.

Originally designed by Augustus Saint-Gaudens for the country's $20 gold piece minted from 1907 to 1933, the obverse side of the coin also bears the inscription "Liberty" and contains both the date of issue and the individual mint mark.

throughout its life, as it was apparently too large a denomination for everyday commerce (compared to the half-eagle or $5 gold piece) and too small for bank reserves and international transactions (compared to the double-eagle or $20 gold piece).

The London weight (166.724 grm.) is that of 20 gold darics of 8.886 grm. (= 129 grs.), and the St. Petersburg weight (2222.425 grm.) is that of 400 silver sigloi of 5.556 grm. ( = 86 grs.).
