Pontus, Amisos, Commodus, AE33. Emperor head rt./Tyche seated left holding rudder and cornucopia, radiate bust before her at knee(the goddess Ma?), R.G. pg.86,111, pl. IX,28. Near centered, some legends weak, clear portrait and rev.

Our example is from Amisos in Pontos. This large (28mm diameter) bronze shows Perseus killing Medusa. The hero is shown with a sword in one hand and the freshly severed Gorgon head in the other.

1) FILE MARKS The flan for this Amisos bronze was filed with a course file prior to striking. It is likely they were re-using old coins as flans, and the file was used to remove the old designs prior to striking the new one.
