Attributes of Apollo that help identify him on coins are rather more varied than for most gods. Sometimes he is shown with a lyre as the god of music and poetry. Sometimes he borrows his sister Artemis' (Diana) bow and is shown hunting.

Beyond the attributes of this piece as a beautiful Proof rarity is its status as the first year with the motto IN GOD WE TRUST. Thus, there is further demand from numismatists desiring to put together a set of the first year of the various designs.

Displaying most attributes discerning collectors seek as they assemble the highest quality sets, it is true gem quality.

Bacchus, with his attributes, is more frequently found on colonial imperial coins; especially on those struck in Syria and Phoenicia, by most cities of which regions he was worshipped, on account of his traditionary expeditions to the East.

As with any grading system, there is often disagreement or confusion over the assignment of a "technical grade" and how attributes should be weighted. Also, some object to "particularization" and the pitfalls of such a slippery slope.

Featuring the portrait of an individual on a coin, which became legal in 44 BC, caused the coin to embody the attributes of the individual portrayed.

You should develop a degree of focus so that you build a collection rather than an accumulation. You can narrow your collection to a specific series of coins or you can focus on coins with certain shared attributes in countless ways.
