The Barber Quarter, as adopted in 1892, shows a bust of Liberty similar in style to the Morgan Dollar but facing right. She is wearing a Liberty cap with a laurel wreath, and a ribbon ties her hair in the back of her neck.

Barber quarters are common in low grade condition but still bring at least a 25% premium over the more common bullion related Washington quarters in average condition. There are three rare dates in the Standing Liberty series that are quite valuable.
Barber Quarter: Below the eagle on the reverse, but often a little skew due to lack of room.

IN A NUTSHELL: Toning can add natural beauty, and value, to coins. Or it can be the result of tampering by a coin doctor. There are ways to tell.
For example: A 1900 Barber quarter in "Average Circulated" Most likely will grade About Good, whereas a 1955 Washington quarter in "Average Circulated" most likely will be in Fine or Very Fine condition.
The above descriptions for the Barber dime also applies to the Barber quarter and Barber half dollar.
