BEAD SEPARATION
Usually a reference to the quality of the strike on a coin that has a border pattern of beads. Coins poorly struck at the rims will have beads that are mushy and run together, i.e. are indistinct from each other.

In the inner bead ring there is open space under the T, while three beads are crowded together just past the S.

On the genuine coin, the stem of the P and the following colon are both aligned with gaps between rim bead. On the forgeries, the stem of the P and the colon are aligned with beads.

Krause states that markings are found on some coins (tiny raised "v" on bottom center of the bust, tiny incuse "C" on a bead of the inner circle below the cetner of the date) but I haven't seen much trace of these markings.

Then, the gold ring and platinum core are simultaneously stamped forming an annular bead where the two precious metals meet.

If so are they of dots or lines, or foliate or bead-and-reel? Here we may be speaking of the style of a mint as well as the style and skill of an engraver.

A trained reckoner could probably do it much faster, although a counter-board was always slower than a bead-frame abacus, for pushing is done more quickly than putting down and taking away.

You can see that some of the bead in the border did not turn out and there are a few tiny air holes that couldn't be repaired by sanding. These will be sealed in or shaped with clay and the whole piece will receive a varnish finish.
