CAMEO CONTRAST
The frost or frosting is a matte type surface on the devices of a Cameo coin and can range in appearance from white to grey (less white) to silver (no white).

Fully prooflike with attractive cameo contrast. Light yellow gold displays a trace of green. The obverse is marred by a series of small scratches from the upper left field, across the hair curls below the coronet.

Semi-prooflike surfaces, excellent lustre. Often seen prooflike, but cameo contrast elusive.

Frosty surfaces, excellent lustre. True P-Ls elusive, though semi-P-Ls are around.

Exceptional eye appeal may include attributes such as vibrant, colorful toning; intense luster; or, in the case of Proof coins, especially strong cameo contrast.

Here is a very early die state and very deep-mirrored example. This is a very tough date to find in top condition. This coin has great cameo contrast and outstanding surfaces.

Those with deeper pockets who love a challenge seek to assemble date-and-mint sets in MS-65 and above or collections of high-grade proof Franklins with deep cameo contrast.

Look for either prooflike or deep-mirror prooflike Morgan Silver Dollar pieces as well. The terms prooflike and deep-mirror prooflike describe the amount of reflectiveness and cameo contrast on a Morgan Silver Dollar.
