Caracalla saw this division as an opportunity to enhance his glory and provoked a war in 216 AD with Artabanus, who controlled the western portions of the empire at this point.

Geta was the second son of the Emperor Septimius Severus, and his wife Julia Domna, his elder brother being Caracalla.

The coin is commonly called the antoninianus by numismatists after the emperor Caracalla, who introduced the coin in early in 215. Although nominally valued at two denarii, the antoninianus never contained more than 1.

Early in the third century AD, the emperor Caracalla introduced a new denomination, the double-denarius. Collectors usually refer to this an an antoninianus (after Caracalla's family name).

He came to power by over throwing Macrinus on the 8th of June, AD 218, in part because a rumor was spread that Caracalla was is real father (probably not true) making him the legitimate heir of the Severan Dynasty.

Antoninianus Double denarius coin. Roman emperor Caracalla (211-217 CE) introduced as a pure silver coin but soon debased to 3 percent silver. Depiction of emperor's portrait with a radiate crown is it's uniqueness.
