Choice
Choice, used in coin descriptions, is a grade modifier used to indicate a particularly nice coin for the grade. Choice usually indicates a well centered and well struck coin.

 


Choice Unc Short for Choice Uncirculated.
Choice Uncirculated An Uncirculated coin grading MS-63 or MS-64.

Choice Mint (MS-63)
Generally speaking, this can be thought of as a nice example of Mint State coin which does not meet the strict quality requirements of an MS-65.

Choice Very Fine (VF-30) - Light even wear on the surface and highest parts of the design. All lettering and major features are sharp.

Choice Very Fine-30 (VF30): This coin shows light even wear on the surface and on the highest parts of the design. All the lettering and features are sharp and clear.

Choice Uncirculated: equal to Mint State 63 on a scale of 1 to 70.
chopmark: the small mark punched onto coins (usually Trade Dollars) by Asian merchants who "certified" the coins authenticity and value.

Choice BU - A term used to describe a nice, uncirculated coin - perhaps the equivalent numerical grade of MS-62 to MS-64.
Choice Unc - Abbreviation for Choice Uncirculated.

Choice - An adjective used to describe an especially select specimen of a given grade. Thus, Choice EF-45 represents and especially select Extremely Fine coin (normal or typical Extremely Fine being EF-40).

Less wear will show than on a coin graded Extremely Fine-40, especially on the cheek of Liberty, below the eye of Liberty and on the wing tips.

Choice Uncirculated - A grade sometimes used to refer to an Uncirculated coin that's slightly better than most, ie with fewer bag marks and strongly struck.

Choice Uncirculated - A grade. A coin is Uncirculated if it has never been in circulation and is without wear.

CHOICE BU
An uncirculated coin with above average strike and lustre, and fewer abrasions or bag marks that usual. Official standards associate this adjective with the Sheldon numerical grade MS-65.

Choice
An adjective which the A.N.A. applies to coins of MS-65 or Proof-65 grade. Many dealers apply the term to the MS/Proof-63 coins, and call MS/Proof-65 coins "Gem".

If you have coins which need extra protection or you'd just like to display your coins in an attractive container, you have numerous options to choose from.

CHU = Choice Uncirculated
SILVER COINS :Still fairly well struck but small details of the design, especially on the high points, may not be fully formed. Lack of such detail must not be confused with wear.

AU-58 (Choice About Uncirculated) - very choice about uncirculated: just traces of wear on a coin with nearly full luster and no major detracting contact marks ...

XF-45 (Choice Extremely Fine) - Legends and devices are clear and sharp, with slight wear on the high points, and great eye appeal.

About Uncirculated ("AU") - Small trace of wear visible on the highest points of the design elements (for example the shoulder of the eagle on a Peace Dollar).

Lightly worn, especially on the highest points, but all lettering and details are sharp.

Choice (3)
Prior to 1987, Choice was equated by the ANA to a coin grading 65 on a 70 point scale. Simultaneously, other coin market activists equated Choice to 63 or 64 on a 70 point scale.

Choice Extremely Fine - 45. Abbreviation: EF-45 Only light overall wear on the highest points of the coin's design. All details of the coin's design are very sharp.

Among choices are collecting the notes from one state, perhaps Bavaria or Brandenburg. One note from each town would be a beginning.

Have choices. Some collectors go to a show to look for one coin. That one coin may not be available at the show you are attending.

The term "choice" in front of a given condition denotes a blemish free surface.

Have some choices in mind-Some collectors go to a show looking for only a particular type of coin. That particular coin may not be available at the coin show you are attending. Try to have a few choices in mind as you attend the show.

Least of all the choices is a denarius from Rome with the same reverse as the Alexandria mint coin in the first photo. The condition is about the same as the 'MANENTI' coin but it is a more common type.

The motives of the choice by a city of its coin-types became, as time went on, more various and complex.

At first he proposed but two: Choice and Gem. Apostles, like Q. David Bowers, hoped to affix a third: Select. However, Select failed to adhere. Then, when God's adjectives proved inadequate, a numbering system was devised.

However, the coin matches the marquee, a © mark is the author’s choice and the coin is still on stage ten years later. Therefore we have no hard evidence that the coin is / was an error as the term is currently used in these guides.

This grade is nearly in the "choice" or MS63 category, but there is usually one thing that keeps it from a higher grader. Expect to find excessive marks or an extremely poor strike or dark and unattractive toning.

1847-O Half Eagle, Choice XF
I've been raving about the value of this date for years and still the 1847-O half eagle doesn't command the respect it deserves.

One of the most common half eagles struck at the Dahlonega Mint in terms of number of coins known, but in high grade (Choice About Uncirculated or better) it becomes a rare coin.

A second group of dealers consists of smaller numismatic concerns that offer choice U.S. coins. While lacking many of the conveniences of the larger companies, these dealers can also be an excellent source for coins.

This year two of our own coins have been nominated in the "people's choice" category. They are competing amongst other coin designs from China, Poland, Hungary, Germany, Canada, US, Austria, Russia, Japan, Denmark, France, The UK and Finland.

A choice brown XF with limited marks and good strike is a tough find for any date in the entire series. In many cases, the true value is greatly depressed by a large amount of MS pieces, possibly from rolls.

The coins were graded as Choice Extremely Fine, Choice BU and Gem BU. The owner of these coins was an experienced collector and a skilled grader. In my opinion, all the coins were correctly graded using the terms and measures of the time.
