Claudius, like the other early Emperors known as the Twelve Caesars, is quite popular with collectors. The history of the period is well recorded and interesting enough to have been made into the public TV series I, Claudius.

Claudius [b. 10 bc] suffered from palsy, was considered a buffoon and became a historian. When Caligula was assassinated, Claudius was the senior surviving member of the imperial family.

The next most popular coins are any of the twelve Caesars: Augustus, Tiberius, Caligula, Claudius, Nero, Galba, Otho, Vitellius, Vespasian, Titus, and Domitian. Later coins are less popular, easier to find, and comparatively less expensive.
Educated in Rome, he was favored by Caligula who granted him rule of the northern part of Judaea, and then by Claudius who gave him rule of all of Judaea. The dates on his coins are from the start of Claudius' reign.
He was a longtime friend of many emperors including Tiberius, Caligula, Claudius and Nero, although so unpopular as emperor that he lasted only 8 months.
The reverse shows a bowl on a tripod stand with raven and dolphin.
The supply of Roman coins for circulation in Britain was at first far from adequate and this resulted in local copies of the official coinage being produced; the commonest of these is the copy of the dupondius of Claudius. In the second century A.D.

That's why many a collector of Roman coins tackle only a smaller span of the more famous emperors - generally the 'Twelve Caesars, a rogue's gallery that would include the likes of Caesar Augustus, Caligula, Claudius and Nero! ...
