Doctored/Altered Coins This is very difficult to detect and can even fool the best of coin experts. When buying any coin of value, buy from reputable dealers.
doctored: a coin that has been cleaned, altered, repaired, or otherwise "improved" to make it more valuable. dollar: an official U.S. denomination equal to 100 Cents or 1/10 of an Eagle. Double Eagle: official name for a $20 gold piece.
