1955 Lincoln Cent Double Die
The 1955 doubled die is one of the most famous error coins. It is well-known and prices for genuine doubled die coins are priceed in the hundreds of dollars, depending on condition.

It is important to use the correct terminology. "Double die" would represent two dies, and as you know, we are dealing with a single die, with a final product which has a doubled (past tense) image, so therefore, doubled die is the correct term.

PROBLEM: The most trivial die varieties, repunched mint marks (RPMs), double dies, repunched dates and even die states command additional money and additional requirements on the part of the collector's knowledge.

Answer: The rarity is what makes them worth that much, and the difference from a normal 1969-S Lincoln Cent is that expensive coin has a double die obverse.

The more common Washington Head version of the Quarter Dollars has some interesting varieties like double dies for 1934, 1942-D, 1943, and 1943-S.

It is my personal and professional opinion that buying a die-chatter damaged "poor man's double die" will not add a bit of value to your collection.
