Who is Eagle Eye?
I (Rick Snow) started a company called Eagle Eye Rare Coins in Tucson, AZ in 1992. My first book, "Flying Eagle and Indian Cents" came out at the same time.

Eagles appear prominently in myth and literature. In the Old World, such references are commonly to the Golden Eagle (or possibly closely related species found in warm climates).

Gold Eagles
Gold Eagles were first struck by the United States Mint in 1986. The Gold American Eagles are the first modern bullion coins to be authorized by the United States Congress.

In 1856 the one cent coin was almost as large as a half dollar. Inflation had lessened the buying power of this coin and people had to carry many of these heavy pieces when they shopped.

1844 Eagle in EF
Since Philadelphia eagles from this era are not avidly collected by date, the 1844 is an issue that does not get a lot of respect. It is actually among the scarcest No Motto eagles.

Eagles first appeared in the Fall of 1795, less than two months after the half eagles debuted. Both were designed by Chief Engraver Robert Scot, and feature Liberty wearing a cloth cap, facing right, with the legend LIBERTY above and the date below.

The eagle was a base-unit of denomination issued only for gold coinage by the United States Mint. The eagle was the largest of the four main decimal base-units of denomination used for circulating coinage in the United States.

The Eagle is also issued in half-ounce, quarter ounce and one tenth of an ounce sizes.

The 1861-D half eagle is a very historic coin and very popular among collectors. The U.S. Government minted 1597 half eagles before the Confederacy seized the Mint on April 8, 1861.

The Liberty Eagle inherited its design from two popular sources. The obverse was patterned after the popular 1816 Coronet-type Large Cent.

Flying Eagle Cents (1856-1858)
Although large cents were produced in larger than ever quantities in the 1850s, they were becoming expensive to make, and the Mint sought to create a substitute.
