Effigy
The image or likeness of a person, usually on the obverse of a coin or medal.
Elongated coin
A small oval token or medal that is made by squeezing a coin, usually a penny, through a roller die.

Effigy - The name given to the Head on the obverse of a coin. For example the Effigy of Queen Elizabeth II on all current British coins. Shown in Illustration 1, top of page.

Effigy
A slightly raised (bas-relief) design, usually on the obverse of a coin, depicting a portrait or likeness of a person such as the monarch or head of the issuing country.

In 1926 the effigy was modified. The most straightforward way to tell the two types of 1926 apart is to compare them with the 1920-1925 versions or the 1927-1936.

Obverse: The effigy of Queen Elizabeth II. There are two different versions, a young head and an old head version. The year of issue and the face value of 5 dollars is also displayed on this side.

In 1952 Gillick's effigy design was selected from a field of seventeen to be used on general-circulation coinage.

For this first dollar commemorative we saw the reverse design modeled by Horst Hahne with the obverse effigy modeled by Raphael Maklouf. It is the standard 25mm diameter circulating aluminium bronze Australian dollar coin weighing 9 grams.

  On them, there is a right facing effigy of the King as
the main device.  The date is centered at the 6 o'clock position with a
"dot" before and after the date. On the outer perimeter of the coin the legend
reads, KALAKAUA I KING OF HAWAII.

The gold coins of this year have sixteen stars upon the obverse, eight upon each side of the effigy. The first coinage of quarter eagles took place in this year.

Junius Brutus, also allowed his own effigy to appear on the remarkable denarius commemorating the dictator's murder on the Ides of March.

The obverse features the existing effigy of Queen Elizabeth II produced by sculptor Ian Rank-Broadley FRBS to create a gold coin which, for the first-time during British historical past, features a monarch and consort upon opposing sides.

Coins were minted in India with the effigy of King George V from 1911 to 1936.

The coin is the effigy of Michel Hidalgo, a revolutionary and abolitionist. Michel Hidalgo is an emblematic figure of Mexico: a priest, a rebel and a revolutionary whose insurrection triggered the country's process of independence.

The chief types refer to the worship of Zeus Olympios, Demeter and Kore (sometimes as cultus-effigy flanked by ears of corn and poppy, Rev. Num., 1893, p. 456), Zeus Lydios, Rape of Persephone, Herakles and Omphale, Dionysos, Athena, Artemis, Hekate, ...

There was an objection in the popular press concerning the portrait, for it was stated that the effigy was of one Mary Cunningham, an Irish-born waitress who worked in a restaurant in Windsor, Vermont, across the river from Cornish, New Hampshire.

Newly designed coins with the effigy of William IV on the obverse and the value on the reverse in English and Urdu, were issued in 1835. The coins from that time onwards were minted in Western style showing portraits of King/queen of England.

One of the first "serious" world coins I purchased was an Austrian taler that featured a 3/4 bust of Leopold the Hog Mouth. I'll admit that the ruler's nickname helped influence my purchase. The effigy on the coin looked a lot like the guy who sold ...

That Titus was responsible for the destruction of the temple in the First Revolt, and then his effigy was defaced on this coin to help finance the Second Revolt, makes this a very interesting specimen.
