In 1837, Bavarian-born metallurgist and chemist Dr. Lewis Feuchtwanger created tokens made of argentan (commonly known as German Silver) to alleviate the need for small change during the Hard Times.

Feuchtwanger Cents are collectible in their own right, but are generally not included in a collection of U.S. Small Cents.

2185 1837 Hard Times token. Feuchtwanger cent. HT-268, Low-120. EF-40. Sharpness of AU, but with some old scratches hidden on the reverse. Dies 6-I. Rarity-1. Mostly silvery surfaces with some areas of toning.
