With the issue of 1990 for the Queen Mother's 90th birthday, it had been very quietly decided to make a five pound coin of the same size and format as the old crown, and that it would continue to be known as a crown.
There were three types of five pound coin struck in 1902. There was a general circulation issue and then there was a Matt Proof struck for inclusion in the 1902 Specimen Sets. The coin shown above is the Matt Proof type.
