Galerius, 1 March 305 - 5 May 311 A.D.
Galerius was Caesar and tetrarch under Maximianus. Although a talented general and administrator, Galerius is better known for his key role in the "Great Persecution" of Christians.

The ruler that issued this coin is known to modern scholars by another of his names: Galerius.
Galerius [b. ca. 250] became Diocletian's Caesar in 293, marrying Diocletian's daughter Galeria Valeria. He began well in defending the Danubian frontier, but in 296 suffered a humiliating defeat at the hands of the Persians.
Galerius ordered Severus to recover Rome. After all, Severus was supposed to be Augustus of the West, although his capital was Milan and his mints were Ticinum [4], Aquileia, and Siscia.
