Gem BU - Synonym for Gem Brilliant Uncirculated.
German silver - An alloy of copper, nickel and zinc but no silver. Also called American silver, Feuchtwanger's composition, nickel silver.

 


Gem BU Short for Gem Brilliant Uncirculated.
Gem Unc Short for Gem Uncirculated.
Gem Uncirculated The adjectival equivalent of Mint State 65 or 66.

gem BU -A gem quality brilliant uncirculated coin. Indicates that this uncirculated coin displays original mint luster and is extremely attractive for the type of coin.

GEM BU
An uncirculated coin with superior lustre, typical or better strike, and nearly flawless. Usually equated to the numerical grade of MS-65.

Gem/Gem BU
Used in a generic sense to describe a high-quality coin. In a more specific definition, "gem" refers to a coin GRADING 65 or 66 on the SHELDON SCALE.

Gem Buffalos are best described as... No wear, full strike bringing up all details of design, outstanding eye appeal and the slightest of contact marks to the surface. Such a coin is very rare, reflected in the price.

Gem BU - A beauty of a coin ! Means GEM quality Brilliant Uncirculated coin. Indicates that this uncirculated coin shows mint brilliance and is extremely attractive for the type of coin. Some might say it sparkles like a "GEM".

Mint State 65 (GEM BU): The coin is uncirculated with no traces of wear although a few small and scattered contact marks may appear.

* Brilliant Uncirculated is the best, but terms such as choice BU, gem BU, select BU and premium BU may add more worth to your divine treasure. We know of a choice BU 15-piece silver proof set selling for $149.50 and well worth the purchase price.

Terms such as brilliant uncirculated (BU), choice BU, gem BU, select BU and premium BU are still used in lieu of numerical grades by some dealers, auctioneers and others.

Though not difficult to find in circulated grades, gem business strikes of this type are very rare, much rarer than gem Type 1 or 3 coins. The rarest of the five dates is the low mintage 1855.

Many coins fall in between grades, and so terms such as 'nearly VF', 'good VF', 'gem BU' are encountered.

This grade is also called "Gem" or "Gem Mint State" or "Gem BU." There may be scattered marks, hairlines or other defects, but they will be minor. Any spots on copper coins will also be minor.
