Gold ingots

British Gold Coins 1663-1925
Britain's conversion to a decimal coinage in 1971 had no impact on its minting of gold, as this metal had long since ceased to be a circulating medium.

The Chinese Gold Panda is a series of gold bullion coins issued by the People's Republic of China. It changes its design every year and comes in different sizes, from 0.1 troy oz to 1 troy oz with different denomination reflecting the weight.

Gold coins were to be made of 22‑karat (91.67%) gold alloyed with copper and silver.
Only gold and silver coins were to be legal tender (accepted for all payments) in the US.

Gold coins from this period were all but ignored by early collectors. The late Walter Breen first examined this denomination's die varieties in his pioneer Early U.S. Half Eagles, published in Numismatic Scrapbook in 1966.

In 1816 gold coins became the only standard and in 1817 a new coinage was issued consisting of sovereigns and their halves valued at 20 and 10 shillings respectively.

Gold Double Eagle, Saint-Gaudens type, had been issued from 1907 until 1932. Although 445,500 Double Eagles had been minted with the 1933 date, none were released into circulation because of changes made to currency laws during the Great Depression.

Much like the slogans that have appeared on North Carolina's automotive license plates having the distinction of being first in the nation always seems to stir up a controversy.

Lebryk estimated that the world market in gold coins is divided between sales of 24-karat coins such as the Canadian Maple Leaf, which account for 60% of the market, and more durable 22-karat coins, a category dominated by the American Eagle.

By far the most extensive part of this thousand-year coinage series are gold solidi and their successors, which tend to sell at reasonable prices unless the issue is rare or unusual in some way.
