Incomplete strike - A coin that is missing design detail because of a problem during the striking process. An incomplete strike may be due to insufficient striking pressure or improperly spaced dies.

incomplete strike: a coin that has parts of the design missing or weak. This can be caused by poor pressure, mis-aligned dies, or foreign matter on the dies.

The thin planchet then being fed into the press resulting in weak incomplete strike. The striations from the weakness in the metal can be seen easily in this example. The strike is so weak that the date is not fully visible.

Grade: VF for wear, but with the typical incomplete strike.
