Large Eagle - Synonym for Heraldic Eagle.
Large letters - Term referring to the size of the lettering of the date on a coin. The use of this term implies that medium or small letters exist for the coin or series.

Also called the large eagle, this emblem of Liberty resembles the eagles of heraldry, thus its acquired name.

The Washington Liverpool Halfpenny (Baker 17, Fuld WA.1791.3) is a backdated copper that was made by combining the obverse of the Washington Large Eagle Cent with a reverse from a common British provincial token, the Liverpool Halfpenny.

For many years, indeed generations, a 1795 Heraldic Eagle, or Large Eagle as it used to be called, has been recognized as one of the foremost rarities in the early eagle series.

It wasn't until 1804 that quarter dollars were minted again and this time the design featured a large eagle on the reverse. The "Draped Bust" design was made until 1807 when the mint again stopped minting quarters.

The reverse depicts a large eagle with outstretched wings-the Union Shield on his breast-clutching thirteen arrows and an olive branch. His beak holds a ribbon inscribed with the Latin motto E PLURIBUS UNUM (One made up of many).
