The Liberty Head Half Eagle
The $5 Coronet, or what is more commonly known as the Liberty Head Half
Eagle, enjoyed one of the longest runs in the history of U.S. Coinage.  The
$5 Liberty Head Gold pieces were in circulation from 1839 to 1908.

The Liberty Head quarter eagle series was produced from 1840 through 1907. Unlike the larger denomination issues of this type, quarter eagles were never produced at the Carson City or Denver mints.

The $10 Liberty Head is one of the most popular and affordable of all U.S. Gold Coins. First minted in 1838, the $10 series of Liberty gold was inspired by Christian Gobrecht's design from a portrait of Venus.

The first Liberty Head half eagle struck at the Dahlonega Mint with the mint mark below the eagle. The strike on most 1840-D half eagles is above average.

Undoubtedly one of the more interesting designs proposed for the dollar coin in recent years was the Flowing Hair Liberty Head Obverse / Eagle in Flight Reverse proposed by United States Mint Engraver, Frank Gasparro in 1977.

Liberty Head $10 (1838-1907)
When $10 coinage recommenced in 1838 a new design, the Coronet or Liberty Head style, was employed.

Liberty Head Nickel
In 1883, a new 5-cent piece was struck with the female likeness of Liberty on the obverse and a "V" (Roman numeral 5) on the reverse. What was missing was the word "cents.

Liberty Head ("V") Nickels were officially minted from 1883 to 1912. However, an unknown mint official illegally produced an unknown quantity of "V" Nickels with the date 1913.

The Liberty Head series contains many rare dates prior to 1895. Most of the mintages were very low and many coins were lost due to remelting. The most commonly found coins are dated after 1895 and are worth about $150 in average condition.

1913 Liberty Head Nickel
The featured coins in these exhibits are some of the most famous rare coins of the United States of America.

The new Liberty head had long, separate locks blowing even more wildly than those on the Chain coins. The new reverse presented an elegant wreath of elongated leaves resembling laurel, the ancient symbol of victory.

A type of Liberty Head depicted on copper and gold coins throughout much of the 19th century. Miss Liberty has a coronet, generally characterized by LIBERTY.
