light line The band of light seen on photographs of coins, especially Proofs. This band also is seen when a coin is examined under a light.
Lincoln Slang for a Lincoln Head cent.

 


light line - Band of light present when a coin is photographed or inspected. More prominent on proof coins.

hairline scratches - very light lines or faint scratches on the surface of a coin. Sometimes caused by light cleaning or polishing. Usually detrimental to a coins desirability and value.

Struck at Antioch in Syria (possibly from dies prepared at Rome??) this 30mm bronze coin of Philip II (247-248 AD) not only is perfectly round but shows a flat edge with squared corners (light line on the diagonal view).

hairlines - very light lines or scratches on the surface of a coin. Sometimes caused by light cleaning or polishing. hammer die - top die. The hammer die is the top die that is placed on top of the coin blank and struck.

175 1856 MS-63. Some light lines in the field keep this from a higher grade. Lustrous honey gold surfaces, very attractive overall-one of the nicest seen at this level. A nice coin overall.

The present example appears to have been minted soon after the appearance of the second break for this break is noticeable as a small tick extending from the outline of the shield, a light line from the tick to the M is only visible when examining ...
