Maria Theresa thaler. Mint of Rome.
The Maria Theresa thaler (MTT) is a silver bullion coin that has been used in world trade continuously since it was first minted as a thaler in 1741.

Maria Theresia Talers have a number of distinct features which can be used to determine the mint and strike date of an individual specimen.

Maria Theresia taler: An Austrian silver trade coin dated 1780, but struck repeatedly since then with the one date.

Maria Theresia (the mother of Marie Antoinette) held many titles and they are abbreviated around the coin. The Hapsburgs were the Holy Roman Emperors and this honor rested on a slew of lesser titles stretching back to the 1200s. M.

One of the people who was in attendance during the Mozart's visit was the princes young son, Joseph Maria Benedikt. Like his father, Joseph Maria Benedikt was an avid patron of the arts as well as a musician and a passionate lover of music.

Once Empress Maria Theresia introduced paper money some 250 years ago, banknotes became an integral part of money transactions in Austria.

Yemen used the Maria Theresa Thaler as its currency. Concurrently, an official currency was also used in Yemen. Aden used the money of the Indian Empire (3 pies = 1 pice; 4 pices = 1 anna; 16 annas = 1 rupee).

In closing this entry it would be remiss of me not to mention the Maria Theresa Thaler of Austria. This is probably the single best known trade coin in history.

In 1810 a revolution broke out in Mexico led by Hidalgo and Don Jose Maria Morelos y Paron and during the years 1811 to 1814 many coins were issued in the name of Morelos.

The obverse of the coins depicted the bust of Lord Calvert, with the legend + CAECILIVS : DNS: TERRAE - MARIAE : & CT . on the shilling (with the final T left off the smaller sized denominations).

Last time, in 2004, the National Collector's Mint advertised its Freedom Tower medallion as legal tender from the Northern Mariana Islands. Turned out that the Marianas don't mint currency, they use U.S. greenbacks.

The next grouping is 4 coins of Titus from Samaria, Judaea Capta (in Greek) around trophy of Armour on reverse. All 4 countermarks appear to have the laureated, bearded heads of Hadrian, to right in rectangle.
