Mint bloom - Original lustre that is still visible on a coin.
Mint error - A mis-struck or defective coin produced by a mint.

mint bloom
The original surface of a newly minted coin (see lustre).
mint mark
A letter or symbol used to denote the mint which produced the coin.

Mint BloomPristine surface of a freshly minted coin.
Mint State (MS)Uncirculated. Coins showing no trace of wear. Coins graded MS 60-70.
MintageThe number of coins originally struck at a particular mint with a particular date on the coin.

Mint bloom; uncirculated. Derived from the French term, Fleur de Coin, having the same meaning.
FIAT MONEY
The name formerly given to paper currency which was issued by a government but which was not redeemable in coin or bullion.

Frosty mint bloom with delicate coppery overtones. The reverse, as usual, is better struck than the obverse but it is, by far, better than normally encountered. The clash marks are lightly in evidence.

Luster - The glossy mint bloom on the surface of an Uncirculated coin. Although normally brilliant, with time luster may become dull, frosty, spotted or discolored.

Whizzing - Giving a coin a false surface fraudulently simulating mint bloom, generally by wire brush or the like.
Year Set - A coin of each demonination issued in a year. Example: Cent, Nickel, Dime, Quarter and Half Dollar all 1990.

Red
Term used for a copper coin that still retains 95 percent or more of its original mint bloom or color (RD).
Red-Brown
Term for copper coin that has from 5 to 95 percent of its original mint color remaining (RB).

Virtually full lustre or mint bloom is present. Copper coins should be expressed in terms of their percentage of lustre (i.e GEM-50%B). Additional adjectives may be used to describe the coin to its full potential. Will have exceptional eye appeal.

Fully Lustre or Mint Bloom is present. Toning on Silver coins (if present) must be attractive. Brilliance (Color) on Bronze Coins should be 90% plus. Eye Appeal is outstanding.

In numismatics, the amount and strength of light reflected from a coin's surface or its original mint bloom. Luster is the result of light reflecting on the flow lines, whether visible or not.
lustre
Alternate form of luster.

About uncirculated. Grade level between extremely fine and uncirculated. Typically, either has full mint sharpness without mint bloom, or has nearly full mint luster with traces of rubbing or enough bag marks to interfere with design details.
