eagle - nick name for the old gold $10 coins made up until 1932. edge lettering - letters or designs made on the side edge of a coin. Modern day coins have a plain or reeded edge.

Rim Dig, Gouge or Nick
Various terms used to describe damage to the outer edge of a coin.
Rip
Slang term referring to coin acquired below the market price. Used for example in, "I ripped an 1883-S Morgan dollar at the auction last night".

Synonym for a rim nick.
Rim nick
A mark or indentation on the rim of a coin.

bag mark - A surface mark, usually in the form of a nick, acquired by a coin when it came into contact with others in a mint bag. Bag marks are most common on large and heavy silver and gold coins.

damage A change of original condition of a numismatic item, such as a hole, tear, scratch, nick, or other problem. date The year(s) shown on banknotes, coins, or other numismatic items that denotes the time of interduction or issue.

walker - nick name for the "Walking Liberty Half dollar". walking liberty - a half dollar with the Walking Liberty design. Made between 1916 and 1947. Thought by some to be one of the US most beautiful coin designs.

On some punches the raised lines forming the letter might have a small hole or nick on the outer surface.

His nick name was "Bet-You-A-Million" and he was an avid gambler...and unlike many people...he was good at it. In general, the more important a piece is, the greater it value.

Rather than calling a coin EF-45, with rim nick, the piece might be offered as a VF with no mention of the flaw. A piece that had been lightly cleaned might be reduced a full grade or more.

They are copied from a low grade genuine coin, but all show the same field marks in front of the face-a nick just left of the 12th star, a nick above ER in AMERICA and another on the final A in AMERICA.
