Obverse
Definition for part of a coin: for Roman coins and many modern coins the obverse is normally the side of the coin depicting the ruler's portrait. Hence the obverse of is also often referred to as "heads.

obverse: The side of a numismatic item that bears the principal design or device, often as prescribed by the issuing authority. In paper money, this is called the face. In slang, the obverse is the "heads" side.

Obverse Types A, B, C
Coins minted from 1862 through 1873 all have the date 1862.
The legend reads "Victoria Queen" for coins dated 1862 - 1876.
It reads "Victoria Empress" for coins dated 1877.

Legend Obverse dimes are one of the most popular 19th century U.S. coins and are available in a wide range of grades. Because of their smaller size they usually have fewer abrasions than larger denomination coins.
