off center A coin struck on a blank that was not properly centered over the anvil, or lower, die. Coins that are 5 percent, or less, off center are graded by PCGS as a regular coin.

Off Center errors is one of the most common types of error found when searching bags of coins from the U.S. Mint.

Off center: coins that are struck "off center" by the press. These coins can be slightly off center, in which case you will see one side of the coin has a larger border than the other.

off center - Describes the incorrect way a coin was struck by the printing dies. Happens when the coin is not placed properly into the collar and the dies strike it off center. Portions of the design will be missing.

Off center - An error caused by incorrectly centering the planchet during the striking process, which results in part of the design missing from the coin.

Off Center - Incorrectly centered during striking, resulting in part of the design missing (off the edge)
Original Toning - Having natural surfaces resulting from long exposure to ordinary environmental conditions; uncleaned.

Off Center - Said of a coin only partly resting within the coining chamber at striking.
Overdate - A date made by superimposing one more numbers on a previously dated die.

An Off Center Strike is another fairly odd looking error coin
As the coin is automatically fed into the press, it doesn't seat into the collar
correctly, and the coin is struck.  Part of the impression is on the coin,
and part of it is not.

Comments: This is a well preserved example, struck off center. In the inner bead ring there is open space under the T, while three beads are crowded together just past the S.

Both are slightly off center; perhaps 15%. The coin on the left is missing the space in front of the Zeus head ruining the balance of the coin.

This one is a bit off center as if the die was struck a glancing blow causing metal to flow to the unstruck side. That side is much thicker than the struck end and can be seen in some of the images below.

This occurs when two non-overlapping planchets enter partially into the coining chamber in an off center position and are struck simultaneously.

For the off center strike only part of the blank is struck by the upper and lower dies. This results in only part of the design being struck on the coin and a coin that is not it's usual round shape.

The first error coin I ever got was a Lincoln penny that had been struck off center by about 85%. All you could see what the top of the president's head!
