The portraits on the obverses are much the same, the busts ornamented with drapery, and the head adorned with a string of pearls.

The third side of a coin. It may be reeded, ornamented, or plain.
Edge device
Letters or emblems on the edge of a coin. Examples would be the stars and lettering on the edge of Saint-Gaudens double eagles.

A word of unknown origin first used to describe a banner or vexillum ornamented with the Christogram, which was the sign under which Constantine the Great chose to fight when he defeated Maxentius in CE 312. It first appears on a coin of CE 327.

Currently US dimes and quarters have a "reeded" edge, which is an edge with small lines on it. Some coins will have lettering, ornamental designs, or plain edges. The new Presidential Dollar coins have a edge lettering.

Portraits are shown as plain heads facing both right and left and busts with different degrees of ornamentation. Types are wonderfully various so I'll show (below right) a personal favorite: the representation of Romulus, the founder of Rome.
