elongated coin
An oval medalet produced by a roller die using a coin, token or medal as a planchet usually a cent.
encapsulated coin
One which has been sealed in a plastic holder, especially by a third-party grading service.

Major problem: left image looks oval or "bent" - Most notably on some 13" curved screens the coin images will look "bent" or convex. This is due to incorrect proportions (height to width) of the display screen.

A shield with straight sides (Type 1) gave way to a rounded ornate shield in 1866 when the motto IN GOD WE TRUST was added to the oval of stars above the eagle (Type 2). There is a pattern of rays in a semicircle touching each wing.

This produces an image which is oval while a scanner produces an image which is correctly round. Also without a professional setup it is difficult for the camera to image a coin at an exact scale.

The addition was relatively easy to accomplish by slightly widening the oval of stars above the eagle's head and placing IN GOD WE TRUST within.

A silver tetradrachm (c.300 BC) of Side, Pamphylia, bears an oval countermark of an anchor neatly placed on Athena's helmet. The anchor is the personal symbol of the Seleukid kings of Syria and is found on a number of silver coins from this period.

The Bank of England bought up a large number of Spanish colonial 8 reale coins and initially countermarked them with a small oval shaped counterstamp of King George III's portrait. These countermarked dollars were valued at 4s9d.

A few ancient coins, such as Persian siglos and Aginia staters, were intentionally struck on oval flans to accommodate oval or elongated designs.

Elongated coin
A small oval token or medal that is made by squeezing a coin, usually a penny, through a roller die.

These are coins that have been authenticated, graded and preserved in plastic by an independent service.

Another example with "emperor's head" in oval on the obverse, on the reverse "boar/dolphin/LXF" and "galley" countermarks ...
